I am a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) who works with clients to maximize profitability through effective utilization of natural resources and the development of ground-breaking greenhouse gas emission reduction and energy efficiency solutions.
Throughout my career, I have developed an extensive knowledge of architecture, construction, urban planning, energy, university sustainability development, and greenhouse gas emission reduction. My undergraduate education was in Sustainable Architecture and History, and I hold a Master’s Degree in Environmental and Energy Planning from the University of Cincinnati. During this time, I have developed a unique vision of the greenhouse gas reduction strategies and energy efficiency synergies possible through innovative business, infrastructural, financial, policy, and community organizing strategies.
Professional Experience
Before launching Independent Energies, LLC, I was a Carbon Consultant with Camco International’s North American division. In this role, I managed the greenhouse gas emissions assessment of the 2008 Democratic National Convention. During my time at Camco, I also participated in a diverse range of roles as a project, IT, business development, administration, marketing and finance consultant. Projects I worked on included: production of a carbon reduction guide for the U.S. National Pork Board; development of an emissions assessment and reduction plan for South Carolina’s publicly-owned school bus fleet; creation of a travel and event greenhouse gas emissions calculator for the City of Denver; and the design of a complex financial model that determined the net present value of individual carbon development assets amortized over the 10 year life of the project.
Prior to my work with Camco, I pursued a variety of experiences related to sustainability. While studying architecture at the University of Kentucky, I designed and in some cases helped to build a number of projects, including houses, playgrounds, community spaces, schools and churches. During my time at the University of Cincinnati I worked as the University’s first Energy Conservation Coordinator. Prior to that, I owned and operated a business providing floor plans and 3D building animation services to real estate companies in New York City.
