Designing the Future.
A Philosphy of Sustainability

Triple Bottom Line

Triple Bottom Line

The term "sustainability" is often used exclusively in reference to preserving the natural environment of the planet. My consultancy views sustainability as a good business practice that has economic, social and environmental implications (often termed the triple bottom line). This approach taps all the synergistic values that exist between these three components.

An example of this approach for an organization might be a lighting retrofit that includes daylighting (a practice that harnesses natural light into interior spaces through window placement and technologies). The increase of natural light in the workplace has been shown to improve worker morale, productivity and long-term retention. Daylighting also reduces the need for artificial light during daylight hours which saves money in monthly energy costs and reduces the need for light bulbs, which often contain chemicals that are harmful to the natural environment.

My consultancy seeks to tap all benefits in a project by quantifying the savings in financial terms. Focusing on the reduction of an organization’s fixed costs helps to ensure long-term sustainability and frees up resources for other endeavors.
